The Face of World War One| BBC WW1 at Home | 2014

‘The Face of World War One’ is made up of a combination of 20,000 audience faces, captured during the BBC WW1 At Home events throughout the summer along with original First World War imagery sourced from Imperial War Museums archive. Read more

‘The People’s Monarch’ was commissioned by BBC South East and depicts the Queen at the time of her coronation and at her Diamond Jubilee. It is 38 square metres containing 5,000 photos. It’s current home after touring at Towner Gallery, Turner Contemporary and Rochester Cathedral is at Gatwick Airport. Read more

 

This work was commissioned to commemorate the 21st Birthday of Royal Victoria Place and its links with the town’s royal heritage. In keeping with the centre’s royal namesake, artist Helen Marshall was commissioned to create a giant portrait of Queen Victoria at the time of her 21st birthday. Read more

The Big Picture was a commission from Audiences Central funded by the Arts Council in The West Midlands and supported by the BBC. The record-breaking work of art, an image submitted of a boxer, included 112, 896 photos and measured 857.3 square metres, the size of three tennis courts. Read more

The Photographers’ Gallery collected 6,000 photographs for an online archive of all things haunting. Artist Helen Marshall chose a single image, a full moon, of all submitted to create a web-based montage, composed of thousands of the other haunting photographs. The artwork was displayed in the gallery foyer. Read more

Photographs of 3,500 recipients of help from The Royal British Legion were put together to create a monumental poppy to publicise an initiative by the charity. The artwork was created from archival and public submissions. The 20 square metre People’s Poppy was on display in June 2006 at London’s Victoria Station, then proceeded to tour the country. A commission from Optomen TV, one of the top 30 independent production companies in the UK. This TV documentary and unusual three-month social experiment, spanned a variety of disciplines. A giant Community Artwork measuring 20 square metres, composed of 3,500 photographs revealing a smiling face was unveiled in the town square. Read more
