The People’s Picture called out for your pictures videos and stories to create a giant rainbow mosaic made up of thousands of NHS staff, key workers and carers combined with the nation’s pictures unveiled at Piccadilly Lights.

Inspired by the 1937 Mass Observation project, FORMAT Photography Festival invited people to use the hashtag #massisolationFORMAT to create a large scale photo mosaic and visual archive during the Covid19 pandemic.

‘The Face of WW1’ was a floor-based 150 square metre piece commissioned by the BBC and made up of 30,000 faces from the BBC WW1 At Home events & Imperial War Museums archive. It was installed outside New BBC Broadcasting House.

‘The Face of Suffrage’ was a floor-based, 200 metre-square photo mosaic made up of more than 3,700 photos of women & girls from the West Midlands and beyond. It was funded by Arts Council England on display at Birmingham New Street Station.

‘The Face of Stoke-on-Trent’ is a giant street artwork commissioned as part of Stoke-on- Trent’s bid to become UK City of Culture 2021. It contains more than 3,550 faces and reveals the face of a local young person, Jozef, and is installed in the city centre.

‘Eye on the Road’ is a street artwork on Tower Bridge Road, London and is made up of 1,955 individual photographs reflecting the local history and present day. The eye belongs to the Artist’s daughter. Commissioned by Southwark Council.

‘Girl Done Good’ commissioned by BH Live is a portrait of Dame Peggy Ashcroft, unveiled by Dame Judi Dench for the reopening of the Ashcroft Playhouse at Fairfield Halls, Croydon. It contains more than 6,000 photos from Croydon residents.

‘Arboretum’ was a commission from the National Memorial Arboretum to commemorate the opening of their new Remembrance Centre. Composed of more than 5,000 photos from volunteers, visitors and archives it is over 4 metres wide.

‘The People’s Poppy’ collected 3,500 photos of recipients from the Royal British Legion to create a monumental poppy to publicise an initiative by the charity on Remembrance Day and was installed on the floor of London Victoria Station.

To mark Black History Month, the NHS in London revealed 36 prominent individuals it has chosen to be ‘the faces’ of the NHS Trusts in the capital. The specially designed website reveals all the faces and stories in an animated map.
