EY Mona Lisa

Atomized | 2019

Introduction

On 21st of January, EY hosted their annual GTLG conference in Rome. To mark the beginning of the conference, Atomized Studios was tasked with creating an art installation and filming the process.

A digital photo mosaic made up of thousands of images – including the wider global tax team and influential change makers from history – make up the face of the iconic and priceless Mona Lisa portrait.

By combining these outstanding leaders and innovative members of the team with famous historical faces, we have emulated the EY way of “building a better working world for our people, clients and for our communities”; creating an inclusive and visually inspiring photo mosaic.

It had long since come to my attention that people of accomplishment rarely sat back and let things happen to them, they went out and happened to things.

The Artist

Helen Marshall is an award winning visual artist based in London. Her practice is rooted in photography, storytelling and new technology, often situated outside the gallery or museum. Marshall’s past work in the West Midlands included The Big Picture, a record breaking artwork containing 120,000 photos submitted by the public. She set up The People’s Picture in 2016, an artist-led design studio delivering giant photo mosaic commissions in the public realm. The People’s Picture combines thousands of photographs to tell a story, commemorate an important occasion or bring attention to important social issues.

By engaging people as the primary producers and contributors of the work the art takes on a new identity. Popular icons and faces are featured as the emblems of our time. Commissions include queens, footballers, soldiers, and the average person on the street.

The People’s Picture

The People’s Picture is a photography and design studio from British artist Helen Marshall. Every artwork is made up of thousands of photos yet every single one tells a story.

As an artist led studio practice we create innovative photo artworks and installations at the leading edge of design and technology. Pictures are powerful. People connect with pictures. People share their memories, dreams and celebrate through pictures.

We are experts in visual storytelling, digital photo mosaics and bringing communities together to create, celebrate and own their unique legacy.
