Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Policy
Helen Marshall Limited trading as The People’s Picture
1. Our commitment
The People’s Picture makes mosaic artworks from many people’s photos and stories. Our work only succeeds when everyone feels welcome to take part and be seen. We are committed to diversity, equity and inclusion in how we work, who we work with, and the artworks we make. We do not tolerate discrimination, harassment or victimisation.
We comply with the Equality Act 2010 in the UK and applicable anti-discrimination laws in the United States, and we protect people regardless of age, disability, gender or gender identity, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy or maternity, race, ethnicity, nationality, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation, or any other characteristic protected by law.
2. In our artworks and projects
- We encourage Commissioners to invite participation from the whole community the project is for, and to consider accessibility, language, and different ways to take part.
- Our submission forms and gallery are designed to be accessible, and we offer help to anyone who finds taking part difficult.
- We ask Commissioners to give us moderation guidelines that respect dignity, and we do not display content that is discriminatory, hateful or abusive.
- We treat contributors’ photos and stories with respect and care, including those of people who have died, and we do not use content in a way that stereotypes or demeans anyone.
- We respect contributors’ choices over names, captions and credit, subject to the Contributor Terms.
3. In our business and supply chain
- We recruit, commission and pay freelancers, sub-contractors and suppliers on the basis of skills, experience and fairness, and we aim to work with a diverse range of people and businesses.
- We expect everyone who works with us, including sub-contractors, to follow this policy, and we may end a working relationship where they do not.
- We make reasonable adjustments for colleagues, collaborators, clients and contributors with disabilities.
- We aim to pay fairly and on time, and to work with local and community-led organisations where we can.
4. Behaviour we expect
Everyone who works with us, takes part in our projects, or visits our events must treat others with respect. Harassment, bullying, discriminatory language and abuse, including online, are not acceptable.
5. Raising a concern
If you experience or witness discrimination or unacceptable behaviour, tell us at support@thepeoplespicture.com. We will take it seriously, deal with it promptly and confidentially under our Complaints Policy, and protect anyone who raises a concern in good faith from retaliation.
6. Reporting a problem or complaining
If you find an accessibility problem on our website or are not happy with our response, email support@thepeoplespicture.com. We take every report seriously and use it to improve. You can also make a complaint under our Complaints Policy. If you are not satisfied with our response in the UK, you can contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS) at equalityadvisoryservice.com.
7. Responsibility and review
The company’s director, Helen Marshall, is responsible for this policy. We review it at least once a year and after any significant incident, and we welcome feedback on how we can do better.
