My deceased husband, a former West Midlands police officer. Lost his life in the line of duty. During his 28 year service he served as a long standing member of the frontline firearms team. Much of his training for this job took,place at derelict military sites and during this period he was exposed to asbestos on numerous occasions. This resulted in him contracting Mesothelioma … cancer of the chest lining, an incurable disease which sits dormant for many years. Once active he survived just 11 months with no hope of a cure. His death is acknowledged as ‘in the line of duty’ and he appears on the Police Roll of Honour.
