“My father first took me to the national memorial arboretum approx. 7 years ago. As a former Harrogate Army Apprentice (intake 54A) and ex serviceman with the Royal. Signals he was absolutely fascinated with the place. This fascination filtered down to me and we regularly visited the arboretum. Unfortunately, my father was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and passed away on 4th January 2012. Before he passed away he was invited to attend the unveiling of the Army Apprentice National Memorial on 7th September 2011. I attended the special ceremony as his guest and was extremely proud to see him with his old apprentices. He was also given the privilege of purchasing his own memorial stone and now me and my family have a special place to visit and remember him. If you could use one of the photos I have attached in the art work I would be extremely grateful and I’m sure he would be very proud. The photos of the individual man is my father and the group photo is (from leftto right) my father, Terry Cawthorn, Rod Trameseur and Douglas Dickason. This photo was taken at the ceremony in September 2011, over 57 years after they all enrolled, and all still good friends. If you could keep me updated with your decision on using the images provided, it would be appreciated. Thanks, Jon West.”
